Living Labs and Test Beds


This programme offers entrepreneurs the services of a network of living labs and test beds, which support the innovation process throughout the different phases of the value chain (ideation, co-creation, validation and scale-up). The final goal is to enhance the conception of fully market-ready products with high added value and a high probability of success.


Basic Info

Who can apply:  The programme is open for any European start-up, SME, entrepreneur and innovation project that aims to improve their product by validating, co-creating and ideating with the end user in a real environment.

Detailed description: The Living Labs and Test Bed programme to accelerarate start-ups/SMEs was launched in 2019, and has 4 phases:

  1. Annual call (6 cut-off dates, bimonthly)

There is an annual call, with 6 cut off dates (bi-monthly), where start-ups/SMEs from Europe can apply to request the services of the living labs and testbeds that belong to the European network of living labs / testbeds focused on healthcare domain, the EIT Health Living Labs network.

  1. Analysis of applications and needs

A group of experts from the project consortium analyses the applications, performs a need analysis, and selects, according to the applicants’ needs, which is the most suitable living lab or test bed to help them.

  1. Matchmaking and contact

Matchmaking and contact between the applicants and the selected living labs or test beds, in order to agree, define and organise the specific service to be provided.

  1. Follow up

Both, the living lab or test bed and the start-up will be monitored by a living lab expert responsible for the project network to accompany the process and gather the necessary information in order to evaluate the proper functioning of the program or make the necessary improvements.
